Ngati Kahungunu's mandated authority says it supports legalising cannabis and is exploring setting up its own medical marijuana project.
At its monthly board meeting, the iwi moved a motion to support the cannabis legislation and control referendum.
Its chair, Ngahiwi Tomoana, says it is about encouraging its members to get out and vote.
