Belarusian living in NZ hopeful for a revolution

From Midday Report, 12:52 pm on 23 September 2020

A Belarusian now living in New Zealand says he's hopeful a revolution may still take place in his home country.

He and dozens of other ex-pats took part in a demonstration against President Alexander Lukashenko's authoritarian government in Auckland on Sunday.

Every Sunday, tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people have taken to the streets in the capital Minsk, and across Belarus, following an election last month many believe Mr Lukashenko rigged in his favour.

Since then, opposition leaders have been detained and forced into exile.

Yet the protests continue. Vadim Chausov - an IT professional in Auckland - told me earlier he finds the heavy-handedness of President Lukashenko and his security forces, awful.

Max Towle asked him if he believes change is coming in Belarus.
