Students call for a review of all unis following racism at Waikato

Te Mana Ākonga, the Māori Tertiary Student's Association, is calling for a national review of universities, saying they are failling to protect Māori students and uphold te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Waikato University is undertaking an independent review following a letter to the Education Minister about structural racism at the institution.

One recent open letter, with more than six-thousand signatories from Aotearoa and around the world is calling for the University of Waikato to eliminate structural racism.

Another - from a range of Māori Professors - is calling on the Minister to conduct a national review of all universities.

Māni Dunlop spoke to Mamaeroa Merito - who is the Tumuaki Takirua of Te Mana Ākonga, which represents more than 17,000 students.
