The Minister for Veteran Affairs, Ron Mark, says he supports – with trepidation – unclaimed war medals being returned to whānau -- but he says the process needs to be incredibly robust.
Seventy-five years after the end of World War 2, descendants of 134 soldiers in the Maori Battalion's C Company are being asked to come forward and claim the war medals their family members never received.
Ron Mark, told Māni Dunlop it's not as straight-forward as just giving the medals back.
