National Party pledges to tackle crime

National says it will establish a police unit to disrupt gangs, tighten border controls to prevent drugs entering the country if its elected at the September election.

The party announced its law and order policies in Tāupo this morning, which also includes expanding the use of alcohol and drug courts.

RNZ was unable to reach the party's justice spokesperson, Simon Bridges.

Julia Whaipooti is a justice advocate and member of the Safe and Effective Justice Advisory Group.
