Oranga Tamariki bosses at Waitangi Tribunal

From Midday Report, 12:11 pm on 7 August 2020

Oranga Tamariki's bosses are fronting up to the Waitangi Tribunal today. The tribunal's urgent inquiry into Oranga Tamariki, which in part seeks to find out why Māori are dispropotionately taken into state care, is underway Wellington. It comes just a day after the Ombudsman released its own scathing report into the Ministry which found babies were routinely being removed from their whanau, rather than in exceptional cases only. RNZ Te Manu Kōrihi reporter Te Aniwa Hurihanganui has been following the inquiry, and joins Māni Dunlop in the Wellington studio.
