Homemade explosives used in Hamilton ATM break-in attempt

From Midday Report, 12:11 pm on 6 August 2020

Two homemade explosive devices were detonated outside a Hamilton shopping mall early this morning in what police believe was an attempt to break into an ATM.

Residents told RNZ they were woken by a loud bang shortly before three this morning and saw black-clad figures fleeing the scene.

Police and the Defence Force have spent the morning at the Chartwell Shopping Centre.

RNZ's Hamilton reporter, Andrew McRae, spoke to Māni Dunlop from the scene.
