The Government is spending $500 million to improve 1500 state houses around the country.
The work will begin in October and will take about two-and-a-half years to complete the upgrades including double glazing and insulation.
The associate minister for housing Kris Faafoi told Māni Dunlop the improvements will make the homes warmer, drier and healthier.
