New Plymouth Māori ward welcomed by former mayor

From Midday Report, 12:44 pm on 22 July 2020

A vote to establish a Māori ward in New Plymouth is being applauded by former mayor Andrew Judd.

Yesterday councillors voted to establish a Māori ward, and in doing so, side-stepped community consultation on the issue - for now.

The same decision in 2014 cost former Mayor Andrew Judd his mayoralty after a community-initiated referendum voted it down.

Mr Judd spoke to Māni Dunlop.
