Far north iwi Te Rarawa has launched a new water storage project to safeguard its horticultural business off the back of one of the worst droughts the region has seen.
The project has received $3 million by the Provincial Growth Fund and will be able to hold 350,000 cubic meters of water, or 140 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
It will also help the iwi expand their horticulture business, and create 20 new jobs for every 100 hectares.
The chair of te rūnanga o Te Rarawa, Haami Piripi, spoke to Māni Dunlop.
