High death toll for Peru despite lockdown

From Midday Report, 12:55 pm on 10 June 2020

Peru was one of the first countries in Latin America to impose a lockdown - in the middle of March.

Despite that, the death toll is sitting at 5,500 and it's among the top 10 in the world for the number of cases - nearly 200,000.

Kathy Yong works for NPH, which cares for orphaned and abandoned children in Latin America and the Carribean.

She spoke to RNZ's Worldwatch reporter, Annabel Reid, about why so many people couldn't live under the lockdown conditions imposed.
