A Waitangi Tribunal report has found systemic breaches by the Crown led to the desecration and development of a historically significant burial site in Waikanae north of Wellington.
The report released today found there were a series of failings by the Crown which prejudiced the iwi and lead to the loss of ownership and control of the Kārewarewa urupā, and its desecration when a housing development went ahead on its site.
