The tourist hub of Kaikoura is expecting an unemployment rate of at least 25 percent as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
A survey by Tourism Industry Aotearoa has found up to half of all tourism jobs could be lost, which equates to about 200-thousand positions.
More than 30 percent of Kaikoura's GDP comes from tourism, with only Queenstown Lakes and the McKenzie District having a higher dependence on the industry.
