The Ōpōtiki Mayor says roadblocks in her region have been hugely successful.
Te Whanau a Apanui and community leaders, councillors, the police and MPs got together prior to Alert Level 4 lockdown to plan roadblocks in their region.
Under Level 3 they are still in place - and to date there are no Covid-19 cases in Te Whanau a Apanui tribal boundaries.
Ōpōtiki Mayor Lyn Riesterer told Māni Dunlop that she credits the community safe zones to that and says they have been welcomed by the community.
