Kōhanga Reo says more home learning resources on the way

From Midday Report, 12:45 pm on 30 April 2020

The Kōhanga Reo National trust is reassuring parents their tamariki aren't missing out, after parents complained that kōhanga reo students received fewer resources for home learning than children at mainstream preschools.

The Ministry of Education has fielded several complaints about the mainstream preschool distance learning packs including books, crayons, and chalk that were missing from the kōhanga reo packs.

However, Kōhanga reo national trust chief executive, Angus Hartley, says the packs that have been sent out were for preschools that receive extra funding due to having disadvantaged students.

He told RNZ reporter Meriana Johnsen that while there is a difference between those packs, there is more to come for kōhanga reo students.
