Urgency lacking in Government's media package

From Midday Report, 12:42 pm on 22 April 2020

It's been a week since media companies appeared before the Epidemic Response Committee, where many pleaded for urgent government support to help them survive the Covid-19 pandemic.

NZME last week announced 200 jobs would be cut after their revenue had halved, and other media outlets said they were also facing a severe downturn in advertising.

At the time, Broadcasting Minister Kris Faafoi said the government was working on a support package to help meet some immediate needs, which he hoped to announce this within the week.

Media commentator Gavin Ellis also presented to the Committee, and spoke to Māni Dunlop.
