Ombudsman inspections not enough: Grey Power

From Midday Report, 12:18 pm on 16 April 2020

Grey Power says an Ombudsman audit into aged care facilities in this country isn't enough.

The Chief Ombudsman Peter Boshier is inspecting several facilities to ensure the human rights of residents in secure units are being upheld and they're getting appropriate care, after the Ministry of Health has identified significant clusters of Covid-19 cases at five rest homes

But Grey Power says that's a poor substitute for someone with expertise in aged care, and the Government has shirked an election promise to appoint an Aged Care Commissioner.

Māni Dunlop speaks to Grey Power's national president, Mac Welch.
