Calls for separate package for Maori businesses

There are fears Māori will become the shock absorbers as the economy continues in its sharp downturn.

Māori own a significant proportion of assets in the primary sectors - with iwi organisations and land trusts heavily invested in tourism, forestry and international equities. 

However - unemployment is at 8-point-4 per cent for Maori - double that of non-Māori.
