Matinee Idle has decided to support the recent enthusiasm for things royal, after the Wedding of the Century. Therefore the theme will be Musical Willies (oo-er!), and there will also be a special documentary on Welsh (vocal) royalty, Tom Jones and his new gospel direction. In addition, Phil and Simon will be playing an assorted variety of classic tracks, works of musical genius and at least one song by Burton Cummings.

Perennial favourite Tom Jones has taken a new direction with his latest record, Praise and Blame. The path he’s chosen is honest and straight-forward. It takes the listener through a selection of classic gospel and folk songs. It’s a project he’s been imagining for many years. The Kings Of Leon and Ray LaMontagne may not be names automatically associated with Tom Jones, but it was recordings by these artists that inspired Jones to enlist the services of producer and musician Ethan Jones to record his raw, new record Praise and Blame.
