For some Maori there is growing alarm over the new government's policies towards Te Tiriti o Waitangi and te reo Maori. Last week saw protests around the motu and this week the Tauranga based iwi Ngai Te Rangi has made an urgent claim to the Waitangi Tribunal. The Ngai Te Rangi Settlement Trust chairperson Charli Tawhiao says government policies violate Article Two of Te Tiriti by failing to protect te reo Maori and that the government bill on treaty principles is also a breach.
