Reviving ancient Maori construction methods

Internationally acclaimed architect Anthony Hoete is helping to revive ancient Maori construction methods with the aim of rebuilding a historic wharenui destroyed in the Napier earthquake of 1931. Professor Hoete spent 30 years working as an architect overseas and his accolades include include a UK Prime Minister's Award for Better Public Building and awards from the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Civic Trust. He's now based at the University of Auckland's School of Architecture and he's looking at the ancient construction technique known as mīmiro.
