It’s undeniable that Bill Withers' music endures. Famous songs like ‘Lean on Me’, ‘Lovely Day’, ‘Grandma’s Hands’ and ‘Ain’t No Sunshine' are lingering ear worms that many of us know by heart.

The artist's pure and deep soulful voice has touched the lifes of many. A gift for songwriting and ability to deliver sincere performances has left a lasting cultural impact and one that’s felt here in Aotearoa.

A group of New Zealand musicians have formed a band in honour of the American singer-songwriter whose songs have shaped their music. To form The Bill Withers Social Club made up of singers Dallas Tamaira (Fat Freddy’s Drop), Rio Hemopo (TrinityRoots), Troy Kingi & L.A Mitchell (Terrible Sons, Fly My Pretties), alongside band members Iraia Whakamoe & Ryan Prebble (The Nudge, Fly My Pretties), Adán Tijerina (The Yoots, AHoriBuzz) & Daniel Hayles (Lord Echo, Hollie Smith), promising to play songs from Bill Withers’ mighty back catalogue.

Iraia Whakamoe, Rio Hemopo and L.A Mitchell join Kara Rickard and Mark Williams to discuss their upcoming performances as The Bill Withers Social Club.
