DoC permit delay stymies Waihi shark research

From Lately, 10:17 pm on 19 November 2021

Waihi locals are worried abut the number of great white shark encounters in Bowentown harbour in the last month  and they're calling on authorities to take action as the town prepares for warmer beach days. Less than a year ago, 19 year old Kaelah Marlow died after a shark attack in the harbour.  Shark researcher, Dr Riley Elliott has identified 15 different individual Great Whites in the area in the past three months but he's not been able to undertake research because he's still waiting for a permit from the Department of Conservation.
