A mission to get Ngati Porou vaccinated in remote communities on the East Cape is gathering pace. A couple of long-time mates have hatched an ambitious plan to fly 10 light aircraft to Ruatoria, Te Araroa and Tolaga Bay on the 13th of November. Each of the aircraft will carry a vaccination team and will be named after significant tipuna who served with the C-Company in the Maori Battalion. They are hoping communities will come out to the aerodromes to reconnect with their tipuna as the planes come in to land and get vaccinated at the same time. One of the pilots is orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Chris Hoffman. He speaks will Karyn about the significance of his initiative.
