Forty years ago this week - three indie rock bands set off on a tour of New Zealand. The 'Screaming Blam-atic Roadshow' coincided with a much more controversial tour. that of the Springboks - who were in the country playing rugby, and dividing the nation. The Roadshow saw Blam Blam Blam, the Newmatics and Screaming Meemees enter the fray - partaking in protests against the rugby tour, and finding themselves in the middle of riots. Simon Griggs was there at the time - all three bands were signed to his record label, Propellor Records, and he was the tour manager. Simon is also the founder of Audioculture, and joins Karyn Hay from Bangkok.
