A team of scientists from the universities in the UK have found that 28-trillion tonnes of ice have disappeared from the surface of the Earth since 1994, with 60-percent of all melting occurring in the Northern Hemisphere.

Greenland's ice sheet lost a record amount of mass last year - more than a million tonnes of ice every minute - which could result in a catastrophic sea level rise.

Karyn speaks with glacier scientist, Professor Jamie Shulmeister, from the University of Canterbury.
