Balancing tourism and the environment
The Government and the tourism industry have no clear plan to deal with the impacts that ballooning tourist numbers will have on the environment in the coming decades, according to a new report from the Environment Commissioner. Simon Upton today released the report which says current Government policies aren't enough to head off the worsening environmental impacts of tourism growth. The Mountain Safety Council's chief executive, Mike Daisley talks to Karyn about what New Zealand needs to do to keep tourists safe, and who pays when they get in trouble.
