Leaders of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care must take responsibility

From Lately, 10:20 pm on 24 September 2019

Tonight the Children's Commissioner, Andrew Becroft said "children and their parents are watching this Royal Commission with the expectation it will uncover the extent of past sexual abuse and help protect children and young people from abuse in the future. We all need to see a process that can be trusted. Without confidence in a respectful and appropriate process, New Zealanders won't have any faith that the Commission can help to prevent this type of abuse from happening ever again."

Karyn speaks with Dame Susan Devoy about news a convicted pedophile has been involved in the Commission's meetings. Dame Susan was instrumental in the inquiry's beginnings when she asked the UN in 2017 to urge the New Zealand Government to hold the independent inquiry into the abuse of children and people with disabilities in state care.
