Health Ministry seeks feedback about medicinal cannabis

From Lately, 10:17 pm on 10 July 2019

The Ministry of Health has published a discussion document with a extensive list of proposed regulations covering cultivation, licensing, manufacture and supply of cannabis products.

It proposes that medicines approved by the Ministry could be prescribed by a GP, and doctors will need a specialist to sign off on most cannabis prescriptions. The Health Minister David Clark says it strikes the right balance, and he's encouraging the public to have their say on the Medicinal Cannibas Scheme over the next four weeks.

Karyn speaks with Dr Graham Gulbransen about the proposed regulations. He's a medically trained cannabis consultant, general practitioner and addiction specialist providing consultations for legal medicinal cannabis prescriptions at New Zealand's first medical cannabis service.
