10:20 Southland DHB faces the public about lead contamination

About 500 residents of two East Otago towns have packed out a public meeting tonight regarding high levels of lead in the local water supply. Karyn will speak with the chair of the Waikouaiti Community Board, Alisdair Morrison, after the meeting about what was said and what happens next, and whether any source of the lead contamination has been confirmed.

10:30   Environmental scientist: there is no safe level of lead in drinking water  

A team of scientists from MacQuarie University in Sydney were commissioned by the Australian Building Codes Board to carry out an evidence-based review of the use and effect on drinking water from lead in plumbing materials. Professor for Environmental Science and Human Health, Mark Patrick Taylor, who lead the research team  speaks with Karyn about their findings and the impacts of lead on human health.
