Almost two months ago, a ship carrying 1700 tonnes of oil, struck a reef off the Tauranga coast and began to leak.

Thousand of birds were covered in oil and died, the beaches had to be cleaned repeatedly and local businesses have suffered.

But was New Zealand well enough prepared and what are the long term effects ikely to be for Bay of Plenty?
