This week the Law Commission tabled a hard hitting report recommending a raft of changes to crack down on the misuse of alcohol. It wants to raise the age at which people can purchase alcohol to 20, increase the excise tax on alcohol and clamp down on opening hours. It's urging Parliament to adopt a measured and coherent response to the growing problem of alcohol consumption in this country. But how likely is it that Parliament can get it right?
