First business survey of the year reveals positive outlook on economy

The first business survey of the year is pointing to a generally positive outlook for the economy but with some warning signs. The Institute of Economic Research's quarterly confidence survey to the end of last year showed a rebound in sentiment from the nine-year low. A net 18 percent of firms expect the economy to get worse compared with a net 28 percent pessimism level in the September quarter.
