Slow Burn: Women and Photography opens 28 February 2026 at Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, showcasing more than five decades of photography by women and non binary artists from Aotearoa. Drawn from Te Papa’s collection, the exhibition explores identity, whānau and feminism, and the idea that powerful image making takes time.
Curator of Historical Photography Lissa Mitchell speaks to Culture 101 about the exhibition and its companion publication.
