Kaharoa Kokako Trust

From Country Life, 9:27 pm on 25 October 2013

The trust was established in 1997 when only 26 kokako were in the Kaharoa Forest. Possums and rats were threatening their continued existence, so since then volunteers have laid poison each year to reduce the pest numbers. In 2006 there were 121 adult kokako and many juveniles. Now the population is one of the largest and most significant in New Zealand. Musical notes from a composition by John Rimmer "For The Kokako" 1978.
