Sharon Earl creates life-sized sculptures from her workshop in Pyramid Valley, North Canterbury.

She grew up on her parent's cattle farm on the banks of Lake Ellesmere and spent much of her childhood drawing animals, mostly cows.

Nowadays, she's swapped her pencil and paper for a welder and steel but her interest in portraying nature is as strong as ever.

"I make sculpture that's in a filigree style and an example is when I made a sculpture of a cow which I called Flora, the patterning on the outside of it was intricate shapes of all the fruits and vegetables I was growing that season".

Her life-sized 'Warhorse' (below) was recently exhibited at the Sculpture on Shore exhibition in Devonport.
