The convenor of a two day planning hui for the people of Waikato-Tainui iwi, says it's important action is taken on recommendations made at the gathering - including helping descendants to find work; An Iwi leaders' group says talks about how a constitution might be based on the country's founding document appear to be empowering tangata whenua to find their own solutions to social problems; A Whanganui iwi says financial compensation from the Crown for its Treaty grievances will mean the tribe will have more influence in the region and allow it to keep prospering and achieve its goal of self determination.
