Maori who've been attending an urgent Waitangi Tribunal hearing in Wellington, are mourning a kuia who helped establish Kohanga Reo for pre-schoolers in Eastern Bay of Plenty; As well as the urgent Kohanga Reo hearing, the Tribunal is considering whether to grant a request by the Maori Council for urgency on the rights of tangata whenua over fresh water resources; The Wairoa District Council has agreed to provide 25 thousand dollars for a poll on whether to introduce Maori wards; An opera based on the story of a nineteenth century Whanganui river Chief Hohepa Te Umuroa and his friendship with a Pakeha settler during the New Zealand land wars, has its world premiere in Wellington this week.
