Act under new leadership with Hide's ouster

Don Brash has ousted Rodney Hide and now his task is to save Act from a train wreck at November's election. Dr Brash, who led National to a narrow defeat in the 2005 election, argued Act faced electoral"oblivion"if it stuck with Mr Hide. As for Rodney Hide, after days of intense campaigning and backroom dealings he bowed to the pressure and with his challenger beside him at a news conference said he was resigning.
