ACC denied after doctor failed to insert contraceptive device
A patient who has been denied ACC cover after getting pregnant after a doctor failed to re-insert their contraceptice device wants ACC to do better when handling complex cases and not search for a reason to deny a pay out. In 2021, Jessie went to a family planning clinic to have an old Jadelle contraceptive removed from their arm and replaced with a new one. But the doctor did not put the new device in, despite specific instructions on file. A few months later, while living overseas, Jessie got pregnant and had a termination, the trauma left them depressed and unable to complete their studies. Jessie spoke to Lisa Owen.
