Adoption practices have come under the scrutiny of the Abuse in Care Royal Commission today.
The commission has held a special hearing into the experiences of Māori in state and faith-based care.
It heard from Māori who say there was little vetting by the state, with the Adoption Act used as a tool of assimilation.
