Let's head to Kenepuru Sound in Marlborough now where farming has taken a nautical turn.
Since a storm caused significant damage to the roading network over six months ago farmers have become dependent on using barges to shift tens of thousands of sheep and cattle and bring in farm supplies.
But they say relying on the barge is not sustainable long term and they're wanting a clearer picture of when road access will be restored.
