Chief executive of Swimtastic Swim School Mark Bone told Checkpoint the last minute rule change to exclude swimming pools from being able to open under level 3 step 2 has been very confusing.
“CDC, the world-leading authority on infectious diseases and the World Health Organisation, have made it clear that swimming pools are very, very safe. Chlorine doesn't make Covid active.
“Our own Ministry of Health is ignoring that. That was originally recognised, then out of the blue they suddenly changed it.”
He said the bizarre thing is when he looks at the government’s Covid-19 website, under sport and recreation it still says “gyms, swimming pools and skate parks can open".
“Constantly they're giving us false information and there's no consistency. That's the frustration.”
