Longest electric flight over water lands in Wellington

From Checkpoint, 6:25 pm on 1 November 2021

Wellington Airport has welcomed an electrifying new visitor.

An entirely electric two-seat light aircraft, owned and flown by the Christchurch-based ElectricAir, undertook the longest ever pure electric flight over water this morning.

It flew from Omaka near Blenheim, across Cook Strait, and into the Capital's city airport.

The aircraft is a step into the future of electri-flying air travel and training.

Visual journalist Samuel Rillstone went to see what's got everyone so charged up.
