Covid-19 experts urge govt to rethink MIQ in Auckland CBD

Some of the country's most prominent Covid-19 minds are calling on the government to radically rethink the managed isolation and quarantine setup in Auckland.

The current outbreak, which has seen Auckland locked down for five and a half weeks and counting, is believed to have leaked out of MIQ in the middle of the CBD.

The link has not been nailed down but health officials believe Delta escaped into the community through a traveller from New South Wales, who checked in to MIQ at the Crowne Plaza.

Two epidemiologists say the Auckland beds need to be reserved for those arriving only from the most low risk locations.
