The government is warning people breaking covid rules will cost them as it increases the penalties people may be forced to pay.

The courts will now be able to sting people up to $12,000 for breaching the rules.

The government says the previous penalties of between $300 and $1000 did not reflect the severity of the breaches.

And the government has announced a $38 million funding boost for Māori health providers to help increase Covid-19 vaccination rates among Māori.
