Covid-19: Extra two weeks lockdown for Auckland

An extra two weeks in lockdown has been locked-in for Tāmaki Makaurau as it braces to bear the brunt of the latest Delta outbreak.

There were 53 new community cases today - all in Auckland - bringing the total number of active cases to 562.

After meeting today, Cabinet confirmed Auckland will remain in lockdown an extra two weeks while the rest of the country - bar Northland - will move to Alert Level 3 at midnight Tuesday.

Te Pirimia Jacinda Ardern says today's cases numbers are encouraging.
