Olympics: Kavanagh Collage cheers head girl Erika Fairweather

From Checkpoint, 5:12 pm on 26 July 2021

Hayden Wilde was not the only NZ athlete in the mix for a medal today. Seventeen-year-old Erika Fairweather from Dunedin was racing for gold in the 400 metres freestyle, after smashing the NZ record late last night and earning a spot in the final.

Erika missed out on a podium spot and ended up eighth.

Our reporter Tess Brunton watched the race with Erika's school mates at Kavanagh College.
