Far North Mayor John Carter is calling on the Defence Force to deal with feral dogs savaging livestock in his district, with fears someone could be killed if the pack is not brought under control.
Wild dogs have killed more than 100 livestock on a farm near Cape Rēinga this week, with farmers now patrolling the property at night with guns.
Checkpoint has approached the Defence Force to see what they can do to help in the Far North, what their powers are there and whether they have any plans to head up. NZDF has not yet responded.
