Feral dogs killing Far North animals, NZDF may be called to cull

From Checkpoint, 5:18 pm on 6 July 2021

The Defence Force could be called upon to help cull feral dogs which are out of control in the Far North.

Wild dogs have killed more than 100 livestock on a farm near Cape Rēinga this week, with farmers now patrolling the property at night with guns.

They want the animals dealt with, but the local council and the DOC do not seem to have a clear solution to the terrifying problem.

The region's mayor says that is where the Defence Force may be able to help.
